WRITING 8 (geneation gap)

Dear Editor,

A-
         Bridging the generation gap is a dual duty. Each of the two parties should try to communicate with the other. Each one should put themselves in the shoes of the other and try to see things from their perspective so that they can be aware of their interests and worries.. This will lead to better understanding between generations. Besides, family activities such as outings, trips, discussion can be an effective way to strengthen the relationship between its members. Finally the habit of talking problems out with each other should be established.

B-
     Thank you ever so much for your enlightening article about generation gap which was on yesterday’s edition.  This issue is so appealing to me that I decided to contribute to the discussion.

C-
         In my view the responsibility for the generation gap lies upon both the young and the old. The elders make “sacrifices” to bring their kids up. So they feel they have rights over them. They expect obedience from them. Meanwhile the children feel they are old enough to break out of the family shell and seek freedom of thoughts and actions. Moreover the elders see their experience a source of wisdom which makes them more insightful about life while the kids consider their parents’ behaviour and ideas out-of-date and belonging to another era. 

D- 
        As we all know, generation gap refers to the difference in attitude, ideas and behaviour which lead to lack of understanding between the younger and older generations. It has always existed, but recently it has widened so much that it threatens the stability of the family and the society. Thus we should ask ourselves who is to blame and how we can try to bridge it.

E-
      In brief, the generation gap is still poisoning the life of many families and people see the other generation as aliens coming from another planet.
